Samsung and Telstra have confirmed pre-orders for three new foldables — the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 — open on 23 July 2026, with the devices arriving on 14 August 2026. The lineup introduces the Fold8 Ultra as the new productivity-focused flagship in Samsung’s book-style foldable range, while the Fold8 targets entertainment and the Flip8 doubles down on compact design. Early buyers can access significant savings and trade-in bonuses when they pre-order through Telstra.
Pre-order window and savings
Telstra will take pre-orders for the Galaxy Z series from 23 July through 13 August 2026. All three phones become available on 14 August. Customers who pre-order during the window can benefit from device-payment-contract discounts plus a trade-in incentive. Individual device discounts on a Device Payment Contract (DPC) are listed as:
- $800 off the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra on a DPC
- $700 off the Galaxy Z Fold8 on a DPC
- $500 off the Galaxy Z Flip8 on a DPC
In addition to those reductions, any eligible trade-in qualifies for a $300 bonus. Combining the highest DPC discount with the trade-in bonus results in potential savings of up to $1,100.
Three devices, three priorities
The new series spans distinct use-cases. The Fold8 Ultra is positioned as the productivity and camera flagship with the largest main screen and the most advanced imaging hardware. The standard Fold8 is tuned for media consumption and reading, employing a wider main display ratio suited to streaming. The Flip8 remains the small, pocketable option, and Samsung highlights it as the slimmest and lightest Flip to date. All three models share IP48 water and dust resistance, Wi‑Fi 7 support and Telstra Satellite Messaging compatibility.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: productivity and pro-grade cameras
The Fold8 Ultra is the headline device in the new line. It opens to an 8-inch primary display and folds to a 6.5-inch cover screen. The rear camera array is a notable step up: a 200MP wide sensor supported by a 10MP telephoto and a 50MP ultra-wide, with processing handled by Samsung’s ProVisual Engine. That configuration brings Fold camera hardware closer to Samsung’s Ultra-series S phones than previous Folds.
Under the hood, Samsung pairs a 5,000mAh battery with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and offers up to 16GB of RAM on the 1TB variant. Software additions focus on productivity-aware AI: one-tap suggestions for reminders and pinned locations, and follow-up screens that open directly into Multi Window to speed multitasking workflows.
- Display: 8″ main (2504 x 2256), 6.5″ cover (2520 x 1080)
- Camera: 200MP wide, 10MP telephoto, 50MP ultra-wide rear; 10MP front
- Battery & chipset: 5,000mAh, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
- Storage/RAM: 256GB/512GB/1TB; up to 16GB RAM
- Colours & weight: Cream, Graphite, Violet Shadow; 215g
Galaxy Z Fold8: entertainment-focused foldable
The standard Fold8 emphasizes media and reading, with a 7.6-inch internal display adopting a wider ratio for streaming platforms and ebooks. Samsung describes this iteration as its most refined Fold design, measuring 9.7mm when folded. It uses the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform as the Ultra and increases battery capacity to 4,800mAh.
Camera hardware on the Fold8 is a dual 50MP arrangement — wide and ultra-wide — and imaging is again processed by the ProVisual Engine. AI functionality here is branded Now Nudge, which surfaces reminders and location prompts in real time and routes follow-up actions into Multi Window for a smooth, everyday multitasking experience.
- Display: 7.6″ main (1848 x 2448), 5.5″ cover (1972 x 1248)
- Camera: 50MP wide, 50MP ultra-wide rear; 10MP front
- Battery & chipset: 4,800mAh, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
- Storage/RAM: 256GB/512GB/1TB; up to 16GB RAM
- Weight: 201g
Galaxy Z Flip8: slimmer, more functional cover screen
The Flip8 keeps the clamshell formula but trims dimensions: Samsung lists the device at 180g and a folded thickness of 13.1mm. The cover screen has grown to 4.1 inches and gains a FlexWindow interface that lets users customise a cover home screen, reply to messages and view Now Brief updates without unfolding. When opened, the main panel measures 6.9 inches and the battery is 4,300mAh.
Camera specifications include a 50MP wide and 12MP ultra-wide rear setup, while the cover screen can serve as a viewfinder for hands-free selfies through FlexCam. The Flip8 is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2600 chipset.
- Display: 6.9″ main (2520 x 1080), 4.1″ cover (1048 x 948)
- Camera: 50MP wide, 12MP ultra-wide rear; 10MP front
- Battery & chipset: 4,300mAh, Exynos 2600
- Storage/RAM: 256GB/512GB; 12GB RAM
- Colours & weight: Cream, Graphite, Pink; 180g
How Galaxy AI is tailored per model
Samsung has chosen to apply distinct AI experiences across the three phones rather than one universal feature. The Flip8’s Now Brief gives quick, personalised updates on the cover display so users can stay informed without unfolding. The Fold8’s Now Nudge is aimed at everyday reminders and location-aware prompts that flow into Multi Window. The Fold8 Ultra takes the concept further for heavy multitaskers, surfacing suggestions and opening follow-up actions in a way designed to support emailing, calls and multiple active apps.
If you’re considering a new foldable this cycle, pre-orders through Telstra between 23 July and 13 August are the route to unlock the advertised DPC discounts and the $300 trade-in bonus, with devices shipping from 14 August 2026.
